U.S. forces prepare to storm Najaf

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraq forces are preparing a final assault on Shi'ite militia positions in the holy town of Najaf, U.S. military has said.

"Iraqi and U.S. forces are making final preparations as we get ready to finish this fight that the Moqtada (al-Sadr) militia started, " Colonel Anthony M. Haslam, commanding officer of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in Najaf, said in a statement on Wednesday.
