Brungy, CPD won't make cheaper power and requires severe tax breaks. The reason their power will be more expensive is because smaller turbines are not as efficient as larger turbines.

Efficiency = Power out / Power in

Laidlaw offers more incentives for the local/state governments than CPD does (more jobs both direct and indirect, more tax revenue, cheaper energy). This is why Laidlaw will succeed and CPD will not. The location will not have any effect on the permitting process because Biomass plants are clean and their primary emission is CO2, which is then used by plants. If you are against putting CO2 into the atmosphere, then stop breathing, because that is exactly what comes out of your respiratory system while you are breathing.

Brungy,

The reasoning behind oposition to the wind farm is because it ties up 100% of the capacity but only delivers 33 percent of the electricity. Laidlaw will tie up 60% and deliver all of it 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The wind project cost 250 million dollars to deliver on average 33 mW of power. Laidlaw costs 100 million dollars and delivers 60+. Laidlaw 40 direct and 300 indirect jobs. Wind mill 15-25 jobs. Need I say more. Cost benefit analisis in its most simple form.
