Yeah, I've come up with another way of answering the $1000 question:

$400 is 40% of $1000
thus
the $US has to slip to 40% of where it is now for us to see $1000 Gold

I think that won't really be necessary, though, because, as you said, the fear factor will kick in.

Let's say that the $US will have to fall to 55% of where it is now...
