Newly, very well put. I agree that is actually a significant disadvantage of the flat tax. The government must look at benefitting society in the long run and even if we disagree at times with the current vision, in the long run it is in everyone's best interest that most Americans own their own home and purchase, as much as they can, goods and services provided by fellow Americans. This is acceptible and necessary government intervention.

ot, Newly, I fear you may be a little more optimistic about the reasons for the special taxes and exceptions in out tax code than I am. I tend to be more pessimistic about it and say they were put there for someone besides common taxpayors benefit (banks, unions etc.). Any benefit to the common working man was just a selling point!
