... almost completed 3-lanes in each direction, eh? ... hell, it should have been completed in the mid-70s ... I distinctly remember driving north to Hudson, NH in the AM for a consulting assignment at Centronics during the light summer traffic of 1983, and 3 was always jammed southbound .. amazing ... do they still have those toll booths in NH on 3?
One can tell when high rise construction is going on in NJ's Hudson County Gold Coast. They got these convoys of oversized tractor trailers hauling 10'x40' sections of prefab concrete on RT 78 East from PA. I assume they are flooring sections. You see them once and a while but not like they used to in the late 90's. I haven't been to Port Newark area near NJ Turnpike in about 3-4 months but there used to be mountains of shipping containers occupying acre after acre stacked to the sky post 9/11. There are a lot less of them there now.
I've been driving the Los Angeles freeways for 17 years and use the traffic as an economic indicator also. Things are going very well here. The port of Los Angeles is hiring and they can't move the containers from China through here fast enough. Interstate 710 from Long Beach inland is a horror story and beyond repair
Do you see rates bottoming out here with an upturn in economic activity to accompany the market rally? Or do you see this as a seasonal end of election year rally?
