TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Great Indonesia Movement Party (GERINDRA) and The People's Conscious Party (HANURA), two newly set parties by retired military generals agreed to coalesce, taking their combined votes to about eight percent of the popular votes.
Chairman of Gerindra (Ret) Lieutenant General Prabowo Subianto, met with former Commander of the Armed Forces Ret General Wiranto at Hanura headquarters in Central Jakarta.
Both parties agreed to set a joint investigation center to collect reports on election irregularities.
Prabowo said the legislative election was poorly-managed and “observers, experts, and public complaints on election violations indicate the matter”.
Both general faced inquiries in the past for their alleged human rights violations. Wiranto was once the target of United Nations investigations on the East Timor conflict with Indonesia where Prabowo has reportedly led unofficial unit to conduct secret operation in the region.
Gerindra was formed in 2006 and Hanura in 2006. Both parties have met with the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle and set a coalition with the second largest party by number votes according to the current tally by the Central Electin Commission.
The parties mulled to bring reports on electoral fouls to justice.
