I forgot to mention that the government would likely take in a bigger haul in death taxes as well, as the money would not be wasted away in a nursing home...

It is not a proposal, suggestion, or a recommendation. Rather it is a mathematical reality of the "cost of longevity" to the system.

It used to be that a large portion of the male population smoked and kicked the bucket shortly after retirement. Insufficient adjustment has been made to retirement plans in company and government programs to deal with this reality. One can argue that the longevity and quality of life has improved but at whose expense? It is at the expense of the children.

The average age of Americans is around 45. How many though are wage earners? You can subtract most everyone under 18 years. 18-20 are either higher education or lower wage jobs for most folks. As boomers retire it is going to leave the younger population being taxed to death to pay for the older population.

While the current older population grew up in a shorter life span environment and will enjoy a longer retirement, that benefit will come on the backs of young people who will have opportunity snatched from them as they are enslaved by their elders SS and medical benefits.

Aside from the children being burdened with the "cost of living" the children will be burdened with the deficit spending incurred during their parents generation for which they garnered (stole) the benefit and left them with the bill.

But it is not over, that is just the face of it. The other item yet to come is the collapse of the dollar. This will put yet a further strain, as the cost for many daily items will have a significant increase. When this increase in daily living hits in addition to the burden of paying for the retirement programs, they will be totally enslaved by their government. Just as your daily expenses went up, so did the day to day cost of operating the government, and the government will seek to extract that value.

Meanwhile relax, you have a couple of years yet before the crap hits the fan.

fuagf, I had a stepsister once who came to visit in her teens and one day asked "where do French fries come from?" We all looked at her but she was serious. Apparently she had survived on a diet of McDonald's. As to the lady who did not eat vegetables but survived on mainly fish and chips, I will have you know that "chips" are a vegetable. Had she eaten nothing but fish and rice or pasta, she would have died.
