Does it support the country? You don't see a lot of fat old people and smokers die 10 years earlier than healthy non smokers. Evidence suggests that the health cost long term for that extra ten years actually works out to $.36 per pack to the positive.

Supposing a person has worked for the government for 20 years and then retires with med and pension and SS. The sooner that person dies, the sooner he has quit being a liability to the government.

Does a person's legacy cost outweigh non smoking and eating healthy or is it just a myth? It could be a question of mathematics. Regardless we are going to find out as boomers retire.
