Since when do ITs demand a particular kind of memory...new memory type at that as a decision criterion ?

Not ITs, OEMs. DDR2 consumes 30% less power than DDR and
that can make a big difference in many system configurations.
Then again for those type of systems the Opteron isn't high on
anyone's list anyways.
