Not quite. Obama won Costa Mesa in the election, and lost in Orange County. Prop 8 lost in both Orange County and California, but won in Costa Mesa. The city is a liberal enclave in Orange County. With a few hundred supporters bussed in, and a couple hundred from the media, an Obama-friendly crowd is easy to build. Availability of parking was one of the main reasons why Obama's team moved the venue there from originally scheduled Santa Ana. Guess they were using quite a few buses.
