After I had dealt with IB customer service both online and on the phone related to my CCON 1-share short situation a manager in the IB trade office called me and told me not to sweat it. He knew that the $1500 ask was bogus and told me that there had been trades at $13 and other lower prices. At the time, my alphatrade tape was showing the previous day's trade of 6.02 as the last price and the T&S historical window was showing two informational trades (F) at 10.25. The manager even called NITE to suggest that maybe they really meant $15 instead of $1500 (brokerages can't ask MMs directly to change their prices). NITE said no, we mean $1500.
Bottom line was that I had to cover, but IB wasn't pushing a specific timeframe for me to do it. I got lucky and covered for $5. Why someone sold to me for $5, I don't know.
