Hynix says to appeal US ruling on Rambus case

SEOUL, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Hynix Semiconductor Inc (000660.KS), the world's No. 2 maker of memory chips, said on Tuesday it would appeal a U.S. court ruling that imposes royalties payments on it in a patent dispute with Rambus Inc (RMBS.O)

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California denied on Monday Rambus's request for an injunction to stop Hynix from making and selling dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips that use Rambus technology. Instead, the court ordered the two sides to negotiate a compulsory license.

The order also finalised a prior ruling awarding damages to Rambus and imposed royalties of up to 4.25 percent on some DRAM sales.

"Hynix is gratified that the court rejected Rambus's request for an injunction, but is disappointed by the district court's damages ruling and will file an appeal when the final judgement is entered," it said in a statement.

Hynix shares were down 1.82 percent at 8,650 won by 0154 GMT, outperforming the wider market's 3.09 percent loss. (Reporting by Rhee So-eui; Editing by Jonathan Hopfner)
