Samsung Electronics and Toshiba, the world’s top two NAND flash vendors, have been cutting memory card prices globally since last week and may continue doing so through this week, according to sources with distributors.

Samsung now sells its 1GB CompactFlash (CF) cards around US$100, compared to the current market price of US$130. The South Korea-based company has also been slashing prices for other types of memory cards and some small density storage devices, the sources indicated.

Toshiba’s 128MB SD cards are now sold at US$17-18 versus a market price of US$20, the sources added.
