Yes, I'm persuaded that fantasy valuations for banking assets at best only extend the agony (a la Japan) and probably permit / encourage more bad risk-taking by the bankers (a la S&Ls). Let John Grayken of Lone Star set the valuations, like he did with Merrill! IMO, the banks nationalized themselves through collective folly that has driven their true equity value below zero. Let's get it over with and stop using political pull to grab taxpayer money that unduly preserves shareholder and bondholder wealth.
