Tis! Hi there ;)......I never did find out how he was captured...I have a fuzzy memory of a discussion about lost dogtags between some older relatives. When I talked to him he was already ill so I didn't stay with him long and he didn't talk about the war. His wife said he was haunted by the experience though and it affected him all his life. He was in the same division with Audie Murphy.
Later his son let me peruse a thick folder with several photos and typewritten notes. He had been a poor typist but that didn't really matter. He described many things in great detail...one stands out in my memory when he described the day they liberated the concentration camp...He wrote that if only they could have gone in just a week earlier...how many more lives they could have saved!
The pictures were graphic... horrible.
Did your Uncle talk about his experiences very much?
