Tbilisi. (Interfax) - A large South Ossetian armed unit entered the Georgian enclave of Vanati in South Ossetia on Thursday morning and disarmed 50 servicemen from the Georgian peacekeeping battalion stationed there, the administration of the Georgian district of Shida Kartli, within which South Ossetia is located, told Interfax.
The Ossetian units are searching every house in Vanati for weapons, the administration said, adding that the local Georgian population has expressed extreme outrage over the incident and is asking for urgent aid from the Georgian authorities.
