There is also no evidence that mistreatment of prisoners has aided our effort in any way. I believe this is an area where critics of the administration have a legitimate issue.

excellent point. it doesn't do anyone any good.

Who is covered under the Geneva convention?

All those people the administration's lawyers were talking about when they spent so much time writing memos saying they could ignore the Geneva Conventions, or that they could just redefine "torture" as they pleased. One of the most damaging acts to US in world opinion in memory. All those innocent men and women we could magically release by the 100s when the scandal blew things open, who otherwise would have sat there for no reason other than no one cared to be bothered with them -- except to do sick things to them..

The prisoner abuse scandal is reprehensible

Gee, after all those times he insisted it was only "hazing" and said how wrong it was of other posters to object, how un-American they were etc, months later it's finally become "reprehensible" to him.

The United States military is one of the last great institutions of the world that upholds and expects moral behavior.

I can't remember anywhere else that I've been or heard of where the inculcation of values has been as important (this is of course besides church).

I think many people don't realize this as a fact.

You don't know what values are until you are exhausted beyond belief and have to sit in a boiling hot room with one drill sgt telling you for hours about each of the Seven Army Values while two other drills yell in your face

lol, ah the good ol' days
