While Hewlett-Packard held onto its lead position in laptop sales in the third quarter of 2008, with shipments of 14.9 million units and a market share of 18.8 percent, Taiwan-based Acer was the big winner of the third quarter, which grew its unit shipment market share by 45 percent, and by 79 percent on a year-over-year basis.
