#13543 RE: The Original dpb5! #13539

Still have that aquarium in my basement. Got into fishies for a while (3 tanks) and the big one became my salt tank, but now I'm into pond fish instead.

There's even a short gearhead story behind that aquarium.

Immediately prior to owning that aquarium, I was the proud owner of a pristine 1982 Honda CBX with 9k miles (6k of which I put on it in the year or two I had it). My wife and I used to ride it all the time. Actually, now that I think about it, that picture is likely from 1989 or 1990. When my daughter was born, money was tight and at my wife's insistence I sold my beloved CBX. For $1500 and that aquarium.

The guy who I sold it to assured me he'd give me first refusal if he sold it. I found out through a mutual friend that he rode it for a few days, then shipped it off to a collector in NYC for $3400.

It was the first time since I was 16 that I didn't own a motorcycle. At one point I had about a dozen or so running ones plus parts bikes.

She regretted it almost immediately (and still does), as did I (and I still do). We both agree it was the coolest thing we ever owned. I was always into the weirder or more extreme of the Japanese bikes, and that CBX was certainly a little of both.

As a result, she didn't raise the least bit of fuss when I bought the Mustang. It was my surrogate CBX.

I'm sure it'll be well north of $5k by the time that auction closes. It's among the most sought-after of the older Japanese bikes.
