Consumer nation just might be brokern here in America, just think about how many storage centers that are full of stuff. In my Grandmother's day they use to save everything, and they would pass along heirlooms from one generation to another. As an example my father's tools were highly prized. They were mostly Craftsman products, they were good when he used them, even better when I use them, and they look brand new.

If consumerism is halted, or drastically cut back, America will be in alot of trouble, so much of the American Economy is built around shopping. Lastly I know many people who have loss on their homes, loss money in the market, and working hard to just pay bills, we are in a recession.

Lastly this market is not providing much guidance, people generally feel better when the market is going up, when the market is declining people become more cautious.

Awaiting this Madoff ruling, think the public would feel better if some of these scam artist end up in jail, and not the nice jails, the ones where someone might just make his life really miserable.

Re: Consumer not buying "stuff" AMZN downgraded

Broadpoint analyst said the consumer has stopped cold. He said that he realizes that investors understand that it is bad out there but they don't realize how bad.
He also mentioned that all the companies at CES were looking to cutbacks. Guess he means nobody is buying the latest gadget to sell to the consumer.

AMZN target lowered to $35.
