If I had taken a profit at that point and the market continued lower, I would be getting the same crap.
I beg to disagree. I've NEVER seen anyone catch flack for taking a profit. And the question wasn't concerning closing your ENTIRE position, just banking a PORTION of your profits.
I also don't see you catching crap for staying with a full position. I do see others seeking to understand your trading philosophy wrt maintaining your full position vs. taking a percentage off the table when profits are offered. If it's just "That's the way I trade", then that's OK by me. Just say so.
Part of the learning process is questioning what you don't understand. Don't take it personal.
