The lifting of the U.N.-imposed anti-Yugoslav sanctions removing all the international and legal barriers for the development of military and technical ties between Moscow and Belgrade was in 2001. Why did Putin wait until now?

Now Putin gets his long awaited shot at Serbia and is supposedly selling the US subs for Taiwan.

That is a good question how Germany and other "EU" nations will react to Russia gaining influence in the region. Is this cooperation we have been seeing an attempt at a real Russian/U.S. alliance albeit under the table? If so Germany and the others might not have much of a say.

I tend to think the smartest thing we can do is cut some of the deceit and grab Russia for an ally because a united Russia and China is endgame for us.

You were right about the Soviets being ahead of us in technology.
