You conveniently miss the point regarding that other "private sector" that you otherwise seem to be so fond of allowing to fail. The "private sector" of financial institutions were NOT allowed to FAIL under The Decider/Paulson's reign.
Sure Repubs/Dems went along because, if you recall, we all were being told by the WH/Treasury Sec'ty that the financial markets were on the verge of "collapse" - a revised version of the "mushroom cloud" warning.
The financial bailout, which some banks did not need, came from The Decider/WS's friend at Treasury with NO strings attached/NO demands placed on the financials to get the money we taxpayers were handing over to them. BTW, we're still waiting for the credit market to loosen up, something the financial bailout was "intended" to do - or so we were told.
