Correct, they did talk but it was through point-to-point solutions...not scalable and very proprietary

Now we are close to see a critical mass of web standards that will dramaitically simplify the integration between legacy and new apps.

Basically SOA has been around for a while, it just now that one can start implementing it in a simplified way and through which re-use is possible.
