RAMBUS HAS UNVEILED its latest creation, the Turbo PCI Express physical layer (or PHY) platform, capable of supporting data rates between 5.0 and 6.4Gbps. Additionally, it will support the 2.5Gbps data rate. Rambus is claiming that the dual-mode capability will allow system developers to up bandwidth without changing their PCI Express system designs.
Rambus will be providing a complete overview of the things the PCI Express can do, and will demonstrate the platform at the Rambus Developer Forum. The Rambus Developer Forum, or RDF, will be held in Tokyo, Japan on July 8-9.
The Turbo PCI Express PHY uses a bunch of Rambus' already existing, patented serial link technologies, connectors and board designs. Apparently the platform will act as a basis for a future PCI Express second-generation product, however those details are scarce at the moment.
