We tried to set the Sony up ourselves -- surround sound, CD player, video games, and a bunch of other stuff I could care less about (not a big TV person), but it became an exercise in futility and frustration, so we paid the vendor some amount of money to do the work. The Sony was returned today from the repair shop -- good as new. Great color. When buying a costly TV, it is one electronic item where I would strongly recommend the extended warrantee contract.

I don't know much about Garmin. Again, I'm not a big TV or electronics person -- I plug them in and expect them to work. But I am pleased with HP. I have the TV's and laptops, and no problems, knock wood. I think when the market retests I will go long some HP.

Enjoy and good luck with the new TV.

I have the same issue with an oak entertainment center. It is a beautiful peice of furniture -- with the broken TV. It will only accomodate an old fashioned 27 inch box TV. I'm using the stereo shelving for books, so it works. Eventually, I will get to Walmart and replace the TV. Fortunately, anything that's going to fit in there is very inexpensive now. I liked that TV for morning noise, and quick news snippets. I just haven't gotten around to replacing it. Someday...
