Again, if this has been brought up here before, I apologize. It was brought up on VMC, so just passing it on.
While I disagree with the idea of being able to turn off the stickies, a reasonable compromise might be that you have a setting whereby when it is "on" (let's say) that whenever you click a sticky to read it, it gets removed from the board so you don't have to see it again. If you don't want them to go away when you click on them, you keep your default setting on "off".
This is essentially what happens in our mailboxes. Once we click on a post, the counter reduces by one. For that matter, the post turns a different color. So, it would be consistent with that idea IMO.
