If that really was short covering, I am puzzled as what news item frightened the shorts so much yesterday afternoon ? (but notin the morning!). And why it is not frightening them today, yet ? In a couple hours things migh change to the opposite, again!

I think more likely an institution bought yesterday because stock prices had reached their price targets.

Thanks for the input, I tend to agree about the slow recovery I think the next stimulus packaage should be more targeted towards small buissness like tax breaks for new office eqipment and investing in productivity gains etc. Auto makers will get thier bailout hopefully tied in to hybrid,fuel cells,smaller high mileage cars and better battery technology. If ten years from now every drive way has an F150 then the U.S. has learnt nothing.
