STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE -- Walter J. McKay III, 65, a former Staten Islander and a Navy veteran, died Oct. 17 in The Villages Regional Hospital, Lady Lake, Fla., of bladder cancer.
A graduate of Midwood High School, Brooklyn, Mr. McKay worked as a truck driver for DLNZ Container, Queens, until his retirement in 1976.
Mr. McKay served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1969.
He enjoyed music, computers, painting and tracking the stock market. He also loved boats and the water, playing pool with friends and the company of family.
"He loved his grandchildren. They were his life," said his daughter Danielle Fasulo.
Mr. McKay's son, Walter J. McKay IV, died in 2007.
Surviving, in addition to his daughter, Danielle, are his wife of 11 years, the former Barbara Bala; a son Anthony; two sisters, Elaine Barba and Linda Caruso, and five grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Hamilton Military Base, Brooklyn. Arrangements were handled by All Faiths Cremation Society, Lady Lake.
