If I had to guess whose behind all this I would say Bear Sterns

My take on who among big players is behind this downplay - Citigroup (SSB). Plus, let's not forget that UBS recently reduced their target on AMD from $20 to $16. So, we are witnessing a take&run case.
I still believe longs (AMD) will be rewarded big time.

Yah, there are a lot of CVB holders that are just interested in cutting coupons and missed the AMD appreciation by going short. I don't want to look it up, but those guys probably represent about 20m of the shorted shares.

Actually, these guys may have an infinite return. If all the money invested in bonds was returned by shorting the stock, they are receiving interest with no money invested.
