There are bigger problems in the Middle East, including how to spend all of the oil wealth that obviously can't go on forever.
You can spend it on nuclear weapons, like Iran is doing. Or toss them into palaces and decadent lifestyles, like the oil shieks are doing. Or you can buy your way into the developed world by building infrastructure for tourism and high-tech.
When viewed from that perspective, it's easy to see where Abu Dhabi wants to go with its investment in AMD and Foundry Co. Besides, I've always said that AMD's demise might be getting bought out of the hands of AMDroids by a private equity firm.
Think of Abu Dhabi as that "private equity firm."
