Well, true. I exaggerated for brevity's sake. Gold doesn't lock in "buying power," but I'm sure Chris will have an excuse for every single period in the last 30 years that it failed to lock in buying power to say each and every circumstant was a "one time" thing never to happen again. Which brings us to mantra number 4....
