The cash infusion is very significant. It enables AMD to live on for a couple of years, and try its luck with the next generation of process and MPU design.

regarding the Foundry Company, the only question is why did the manager of the fund do such an obviously bad deal ? No one is stupid enough to expect profit from this foundry. So it has to be another motivation.

Mas has a point for once.

It's not that Abu Dhabi sees an unfulfilled market opportunity here. It's just that they see a future beyond oil, and they just want to be a player in it, even if it means going down the same trail that's already been traveled by Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and lately China.

One thing is for sure, though. I don't think AMD will ever be the same threat they once posed to Intel. Instead, they might become the next Via, and I don't think that's exactly what Mas or other AMD cheerleaders had in mind.
