We played "Let's make a fort" too. The forts were piled-up used semi truck tires. BIG.

Then a large Y-shaped tree branch was put inside. Along with a large supply of rocks. A strip of rubber cut from truck inner tubes was tied to each prong of the Y, make a sling.

Then you got inside the fort and opened fire on your friends.

Amazingly, nobody was ever killed.
