And Petrocom became Broadpoint

http://www.broadpointinc.com/public/pag7.aspx

When Mr Parro was a top officer there (during his tenure as CEO, I think) petrocom pioneered the 3g satellite communications for offshore use. - a visionary move ;-)

Very nice find spooky.
"More than 3,800 drilling platforms are in PetroCom's coverage area. Parro estimates the communications market in the Gulf to be worth between $150 million and $200 million per year with 30,000 potential users.

PetroCom already operates an undersea fiber optic network in the Gulf through a sister company, Gulf Fiber Corp., which provides communications to several British Petroleum platforms. Setting up the initial network in 1999 to seven platforms cost the company $30 million, an investment too steep for many smaller players."

"Founded in 1984, PetroCom has 70 employees and earned close to $28 million in 2003 revenue. PetroCom has offices in New Orleans, Lafayette and Houston. The company plans to add 12 employees this year, mainly in New Orleans."
