I was re-reading your answers and saw the statement about the Pledge of Allegiance. I think I remember Karen Holt on SI mentioing that the "under God" phrase was insert during the McCarthy era. Is this your impression too?
I've always been uncomfortable with it there and have omitted it since high school. Of course, that was back in the seventies and I got hauled into the principal's office for insubordination.....
