The 2 photos in my post were showing the type of Launch And Recovery System (LARS). The round device on top of the ROV in the first photo does look like a SAM in shape, but they are not close in in other respects.
LARS can have a Proteus(AHC automatic heave compensator) attached , that would help keep the ROV from bouncing off the bottom each time a ship rides a swell.
