Sounded like they didn't take Mary as important and just closed her account. Maybe I read the posts incorrectly?

Plain and simple...with BKMP's inactivity, I lost track of $$ in the account, was paying more attention to my other account, and time took its toll on me. I was in debt, so they sold my $40 worth of BKMP to cover the cost. Shame it had to end like this...I wish you all the best and will be following.

They did not sweep out defunct stocks, they sold her shares to clear up an account that was in the red.

If you really read what happened it was the investors fault...also further proof that the brokerage took her least valued stock as they always have, nothing new!
