"PM Dung meets US groups’ leaders

Washington D.C. (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with a delegation from the American Society of Employers in Washington D.C. on the morning of June 24 (local time) during his official visit to the US .
Meeting with the society’s President, CEOs and members, PM Dung affirmed that foreign companies are allowed to conduct their business in Vietnam in line with Vietnam ’s commitments at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the Vietnam-US Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
“ Vietnam is creating all conditions for US and other countries’ investors who are offered with equal treatment as domestic businesses and considers foreign investment as an inseparable part of Vietnam ’s economy,” the Vietnamese PM said.
US groups said they wished to conduct long-term investment in Vietnam , especially in information technology, finance and banking, education and training which are their fields of strength.
PM Dung also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on trade promotion between the two countries’ trade promotion departments and economic contracts of the two countries’ businesses.
Earlier, PM Dung and his entourage attended the fourth session of the Vietnam-US High-level Consultative Council on raising the competitiveness.
The session reviewed the results of the council’s activities since the previous session in September 2007 and put forward recommendations to Vietnam in balancing growth and curbing inflation.
Representatives of Goldman Sachs provided five recommendations to reduce the fluctuation of Vietnam ’s capital market.
Meanwhile, the Vice President of Citi Group, Jefrey Schafer, praised the solutions the Vietnamese Government is implementing to reduce inflation and stabilise the macro-economy.
President of the Vietnam-US High-level Consultative Council Ernest Bower said he is optimistic that Vietnam ’s economy will overcome current difficulties.
He affirmed that US businesses – the council’s members – would work side by side with Vietnam to help overcome difficulties in sustainable development.
PM Dung lauded the council’s efforts and its contributions to the development of bilateral relations, especially the implementation of the BTA, the ratification of the Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) and Vietnam ’s admission to the WTO.
