A quick update on MVIS, which I mentioned just prior to its CC on 3-10-04. At that time, high expectations were built into the stock price as investor’s anticipated that this R&D company would show solid evidence of progressing to commercial sales. Unfortunately, that CC was long on promise but short on contracts, and sellers took it down hard. Perhaps anticipating a similar fate, investors and short sellers presold this CC and, abetted by a weak tech sector, took the stock down hard again. However, this CC may have disappointed those looking for bad news. It does seem that the company is finally making the transition (years in the making …too many by my count) to production with its Nomad display and Flic bar code reader. Though sellers, especially the short kind, have been happy campers the last seven weeks, they may forfeit some of the territory gained in recent weeks should buyers be emboldened by the company’s stated progress.
For those interested, there is a lengthy cover story article in IEEE Spectrum magazine written by Microvision’s head scientist, John Lewis, that presents a good overview of the company and its technology. You can access it, as well as a replay of the CC if interested, at the company’s web site.
