If they are hiring a SolidWorks designer they are probably expanding as a company working on these types of products already has at least 1 or 2 designers actively modeling their products.
Products such as Solidworks, Inventor, and Pro-E allow CAD designers to aid in the rapid development and design of products.
Additionally you can use the software, if you have the proper plugins, to do stress testing and other very sophisticated testing on the product designs, this helps to save money by allowing you to do your testing in house on a computer rather then sending out to a third party.
