#33509 RE: dacaw #33503

dacaw, three things -

1. How do you explain the text I quoted from hypertransport.org?

Coherent HyperTransport™ technology is a application of HyperTransport™ technology used to link multiple processors together where memory coherence is required. An example of processors using HyperTransport™ coherency is the eighth-generation AMD OpteronTM processor.

What is to stop someone from coming up with a different coherent application? Why would the (AMD-led) consortium say that if AMD built an impenetrable patent wall?

2. How do you know that Intel doesn't already have a license for the AMD solution? They do cross-license a lot of stuff!

3. PCI-Express, AFAIK, is a peripheral-only solution and not suitable for multiprocessor implementations. When Intel first talked about it years ago they spoke as if it were a HT competitor, but since have backed off from that position. I don't think coherence is the only issue.
