The older Buicks are Awesome!
I had a 1986 Buick with nearly the same design 3.8L and it would get near 30 mpg on the highway also, usually driving 55 with the cruise control on. I just shake my head when I see advertising nowadays for 31/32 mpg highway. Hasn't technology progressed at All? I wonder if the new mpg rating are at 75 mph? Not sure if they will ever go back and lower the speed limits to help conserve fuel? Everyday I see a Lot of big SUVs driving around punching the pedal to the metal, you can hear the exhaust screaming, as they try to get that big hunk of metal moving. I wonder if they could see the fuel needle moving if they would be more conservative? Maybe start affixing Gallons per Hour meters like on boats? Not sure if it is possible with the way the fuel systems are setup though, most have fuel regulators that bypass fuel so it is constantly circulating, but it might make them think about how much fuel they are consuming? I used to have a conversion van with dual 20 gallon tanks. I would sure hate to have to fill that up with gas at 3.50. Yet I don't see any fewer big vehicles on the road. And everyone wonders why fuel costs don't drop? Huge vehicles have a Huge demand.
More and more condominiums are being built here central to the city and public transportation, like near the new electric train route. As prices escalate I would not be surprised to see them become more popular as a place to live.
Society will have to adapt if they want things to change.
