[OT] RAID configurations:
Thanks, Richter, for the info on RAID; it sounds like what I should get. I’m sending you an email so you can reply with config info.
I’ve never heard of a “reboot counter” either –until now. Dell evidently has a low-level disk diagnostic which runs at PC bootup (before Windows itself boots). This tool reported that my hard drive was operating “outside of normal specifications” and must be replaced. My hunch is that it’s the drive motor that is failing, because I’ve had no problems with reads and writes as with prior disk failures when the read/write heads wore out.
I’ve backed up everything (including bookmarks and cookies) and will be buying a new system this week. Whatever work I can get done on the current machine from here on is a freebie.
Later, I plan to install a new disk in the current machine and will probably upgrade one (or both) of the machines to RAID. Regards, Dew
