Agreed - imminent suggests a much more closer event than what "soon" would suggest. "Soon" tends to convey a much more flexible timeframe - days/a week or two, may be a month, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the deal has already been closed for a week or so. Mako was announced a few days after it's official closing.
