That was a great question to ask regarding the custom versus generic. I am not surprised to see the majority of the orders are custom, however, I never thought that the number would be around 95%.
Everyone in deep water is looking for anyway to save costs and I have a feeling that the tiny tweaks that are made provide just that. Also, the technical difficulties associated with deep water drilling are so great, that everything needs to be perfect in order to be successful.
I truly think that the smaller companies such as Deep Down have the expertise and the ability to do more custom work than the giants in the industry like HAL, SLB, BHI.
