Short on time, Rooster, and while the list is lengthly, for you I will keep it short and simple. All my opinion, of course.
Please, Please tell me how is W. a failed President?Everything he has done is working are is getting ready to work! I want a list of his failures please.
Our country suffered a huge trajedy on 9/11. Who did, or didn't do, what was necessary to protect us from such an attack is less important to me than what we did after 9/11. On 9/12 we had virtually the whole world on our side and almost every country knew there was a new problem that needed to be dealt with as they too could potentially be harmed. When Bush stood with that bullhorn he had most of our country in his palm, me included. The slate was wiped clean and I rallied around 'my president'.
Our going to Afghanistan was absolutely necessary and I believe most the world felt the same.
Where has Bush failed? Going to war in Iraq.
If you feel like Daffy and zitboy that we are safer today because of invading and occupying Iraq, well, you are entitled to your opinion. If you feel spending a billion dollars a day to occupy Iraq could not have been better spent elsewhere on 'the war on terror, I vehemently disagree. If you feel our policy of invading Iraq has not galvanized Arab hatred against us and created an environment of spawning new terrorists, I strongly disagree (ask our moderate friends, Mubarak and King Abdullah). If you feel that us going alone (other than Britain, please, give me a break on the 'coalition of the willing' stuff), shunning the U.N. (read the whole world), dissing 'old europe' has made us stronger in the fight on terror, I disagree. If you feel focusing on Iraq did not take our eyes off the man who was wanted 'dead or alive', I disagree. If you feel Iraq was a bigger problem than Saudi Arabia, PAKISTAN, Syria, or Iran for breeding terrorists, I disagree. If you feel bin Laden was unhappy when the crusaders came to occupy a Muslim country, I disagree.
Do I think it is likely 'we' will install a democratic government in Iraq? No. Do I think it is likely this war will be viewed for years to come as a colossal mistake? Yes, I do. Do I think our invasion of Iraq furthers our war on terror and makes us safer in the long run? No, I don't.
Therefore, I think Bush's policy on Iraq has been a failure, a major failure with many other factors too numberous to mention (deficits, loss of life, spreading our forces too thin, shredding of goodwill, etc), and therefore conclude his policy as 'a war president' has been a failure and he should be voted out of office.
And let me add this: If Bush is reelected the whole world will say, OK, U.S.A., apparently you approve of this administration...and you're on your own. Good luck...and we will need it.
