I believe that the legal rights of all parties need to be respected and that the difference between rights and desires needs to be understood... I think there are negative long term implications for companies which do not work with communities and equally so for communities which do not respect the rights of companies... Ellicottville is an example of the worst outcome for both sides... Politicians who violate the civil rights of a company and then find that the company has no alternative but to turn to the courts for justice and compensation... I can only imagine how the town plans to deal with an adverse $10 million judgement if the federal court finds in favour of the company...
The PSNH nuclear plant in Seabrook, NH was built on some of the most beautiful seacoast in New England. Protesters came from all over the country to try and stop it. There were armed clashes with police and many attempts to storm the security fences. I was there.
