I believe you will find that it is more like $600-$650/connection but that is based on Cable MSO's that deploy DOCIS3 with HFC coax on transmission lines and standard coax to the premise. Similar to AT&T FTTN using existing copper in the home but fiber from the plant to the node. Requires an network interface device (NID) or network interface unit (NIU). The concept being is that this type of platform will deliver enough bandwidth and speed to compete with pure fiber to some point in the future. The big question is "at what point in the future" will they have to go all fiber into the premise to deliver the bandwidth & speed necessary.

A pure FTTH platform like Verizons FIOS when all equipment is updated IE central office, OLTs and access equipment (ONT) etc. comes with a price tag of $1,500/home currently down from $4,500. This correlates to the number of homes passed and signed up and until the customer base increases to a sufficient levels as to cover initial deployment costs and become profitable.
