It hasn't happened yet, but with outsourcing to lower wage countries, it really could happen in healthcare. Think about it, your non-emergent, elective stuff -- eg. total hip, non-emergent cardiac cath, and everything else elective... It could be outsourced, and I'm sure the health insurance industry have considered just that.

Seriously, I've heard of women going to Venezuela for boob jobs, and other cosmetics. Supposedly, they do it well in Venezuela, and a much lower prices than here in the US...

They're outsourcing everything else, why not healthcare? We're already importing generic meds from places like Iran -- thru Canada, of course, because we can't trade directly with Iran. Do we/should we trust the quality of meds coming in from Iran ?? If our so-called "homeland security" is worried about bioterrorism, imported drugs are a risk... Maybe a bigger security risk than open borders.

They did an episode on Boston Legal about it.... but they were talking about India. I don't know if it actually happens yet, but I'm guessing it will.

Yep. Boston Legal picked up the story--as they often do--from press reports.

On another front, my dentist tells me that several of her patients have established residency in Canada or Europe so they can get on the National Health rolls.
